Flipkart marketing · Answer

How much does Flipkart charge for shipping?

The short answer

Flipkart charges a shipping fee per order that is calculated from the parcel's weight and the delivery zone, which is local, regional or national. Light items travelling short distances have been shipped free under a 500 gram threshold in eligible cases. The fee is charged on whichever is higher, actual weight or volumetric weight, and that second one is where most sellers lose money without noticing.

Weight and zone, in that order

Two inputs decide the fee. The first is weight slab. The second is how far the parcel travels, split into local, zonal and national bands, with national costing the most.

Neither is negotiable per order, but both are influenced by where your inventory sits. A seller with stock in one city pays national rates to most of the country. This is the argument for fulfilment placement, and it is a real one.

Volumetric weight is the fee most sellers miss

Marketplaces charge on volumetric weight when a box is bulky relative to what it contains. The standard formula is length times breadth times height in centimetres, divided by 5000, and you are billed on whichever is greater, that figure or the actual weight.

A 300 gram product in an oversized carton can therefore be billed as a much heavier parcel on every single order. That makes packaging a cost decision.

Confirm the current divisor and the slabs in Seller Hub before you rebuild your packaging around them.

How to avoid shipping charges on Flipkart

You cannot remove the fee, and any advice that says otherwise is describing a threshold rather than an exemption. What you can do is stop paying more than the parcel warrants.

Right-size the box so volumetric weight stops exceeding actual weight. Check whether your best sellers sit just above a weight slab boundary, because a few grams of packaging can move a whole catalogue into the next band.

Then remember the fee is charged on returns too, in both directions. Cutting your return rate cuts your shipping bill more reliably than any packaging change.
