Meta ads agency for D2C: when should a brand hire one?

A D2C brand should hire a Meta ads agency when it already has a product that sells and the founder's time is the limit. What an agency covers, what it cannot fix, and five questions to ask first.

A D2C brand should hire a Meta ads agency when its product already sells to strangers and the founder no longer has the time to run the account well. If the product has not sold to anyone outside friends and family, an agency will spend money to find that out. You can find it out yourself for less.

That is the whole decision. The rest of this post is how to check it.

An agency cannot fix an offer that does not sell

Meta ads put your product in front of people. They do not make the product worth buying. Before hiring, check three things: people who do not know you have bought it, they came back for a second order, and the price leaves a margin after returns and shipping. If any of those is missing, fix it first.

Run it yourself until you have one ad that works

One product, one audience, a small daily budget. Meta's own Ads Manager is enough. Run it for a month and keep the numbers: cost per order, repeat rate, returns. You need this record before you hire anyone, because it is how you judge them.

Hire when more than one platform needs the same budget decision

The case for an agency gets stronger when you sell on your own site and on Amazon or Flipkart, and the question becomes where the next rupee goes. Someone has to compare Meta, Google and marketplace ads on the same profit per order. A team that runs all of them can do that. A team that runs only Meta will tell you to spend more on Meta.

Ask who owns the ad account

The ad account, the pixel and the reports should sit in your business account, with the agency added as a partner. If the agency owns them, you lose your history when you leave.

Ask for the fee on a separate line from the ad budget

Your ad budget goes to Meta. The fee goes to the agency. Ask for both numbers, written separately, and ask what the fee covers.

Our own plan: a fixed fee of ₹25,000 a month plus GST, which is half our usual rate, plus 5% to 10% of marketplace revenue, set per brand. That fee covers ads on every platform we run for you, including Meta and Google for your own site. Additional services cost extra.

Five questions to ask before you hire a Meta ads agency

  1. Whose business account will the ad account and pixel sit in?
  2. Which number do you report: platform ROAS, or revenue after returns?
  3. Who makes the creatives, and how many new ones a month are included?
  4. Can I see the account at any time without asking?
  5. If I also sell on Amazon or Flipkart, do you run those too, and can you show all of it on one profit number?

What this means for you

If your product sells and your time is the limit, hire an agency that runs every platform you sell on. If you have not found a working ad yet, run it yourself for a month and keep the record.
