Amazon seller fees · Answer
The short answer
Amazon India takes four kinds of fees from each sale: a referral fee, which is a percentage of the selling price and varies by category (it starts at 0%); a closing fee, a flat amount set by the price band; a weight handling fee for shipping, which Amazon says starts at Rs 37 per item and varies by size and distance; and other fees that apply only to certain fulfilment channels or programs. Amazon adds 18% GST on all of them. The figures below come from Amazon's own seller fees page, read on 1 October 2026.
Referral fee = item price x the category's referral percentage. Amazon's own examples: dried fruits and nuts at Rs 750 carry a 0% referral fee, so the fee is Rs 0. Baby apparel at Rs 1,450 carries 7%, so the fee is Rs 101.50.
Amazon also lists a zero referral fee on over 12.5 crore products. Check your own category in Amazon's fee dashboard before you assume a number, because the percentage differs across categories such as fashion, electronics, grocery, beauty and home.
The closing fee is charged every time a product sells. It is set by the price band of the item and by the fulfilment channel: Fulfilment by Amazon, Easy Ship, Seller Flex or Self Ship. Amazon says it starts at Rs 2.
Amazon is raising closing fees from 7 September 2026 because of higher fuel and logistics costs. For products priced up to Rs 500 the fee goes up by Rs 1, and above Rs 500 by Rs 3, across Fulfilment by Amazon, Easy Ship and Seller Flex. Use the current fee dashboard for your price, not an older article.
If you use Fulfilment by Amazon or Easy Ship, Amazon delivers to the customer and charges a weight handling fee. Amazon says it starts at Rs 37 per item shipped and varies by item volume and distance: local, regional or national.
If you Self Ship, Amazon charges no shipping fee. You pay your own courier directly.
Fulfilment by Amazon sellers also pay a pick and pack fee, a storage fee and a removal fee. Programs such as Amazon Launchpad can add charges for the service. Amazon applies 18% GST on every fee it lists.
Amazon's own formula: profit = selling price minus (referral fee + closing fee + weight handling fee + other fees + product cost). Add returns to that, because fees on a returned order do not come back in the same way.
That per-order profit is also the starting point for advertising. Divide it by the selling price and you get the break-even ACoS: the share of a sale you can spend on ads before the sale loses money.
Amazon says you become eligible for payment 7 days after the order is delivered, and that payments are deposited every 7 days, minus the fees. That applies to new sellers at the Standard level of Amazon STEP. Higher levels can unlock faster payment cycles and fee waivers.
| Fee | Based on | What Amazon says |
|---|---|---|
| Referral fee | Product category | A percentage of the selling price; starts at 0% |
| Closing fee | Price band and fulfilment channel | Starts at Rs 2; revised from 7 September 2026 |
| Weight handling fee | Weight, size and distance | Starts at Rs 37 per item shipped |
| Other fees | Program or channel | Pick and pack, storage and removal for Fulfilment by Amazon; optional programs |
| GST | On every fee above | 18% |
Amazon calls these figures indicative. The final fee depends on category, size, weight, volumetric weight and services used. Fees are shown by Amazon excluding GST.
